AAJA-Asia’s own National Board Representative Chi-Chi Zhang of CNN will moderate a panel at the UNITY convention in Las Vegas next month. She will talk to Farland Chang of WorldBizWatch and Michael Logan of NextMedia Animation about working overseas. The panel, “Emerging Markets, Emerging Jobs,” is scheduled for Friday, Aug. 3 from 10:45am to noon.

Perhaps no other region in the world is better positioned than Asia to emerge as journalism’s next hotbed. With China and other countries now taking a more central role on the global stage, opportunities for journalists are expanding. What are the challenges and rewards of working overseas? Asia-based correspondents discuss their careers and how journalists can position themselves for jobs around Asia.

Speakers:
FARLAND CHANG is an Emmy award winning journalist who has reported on business and news events from all over Asia and North America for more than 25 years. As Executive Producer of WorldBizWatch, Farland develops unique content that bridges east and west. His team customizes programs on TV and online for global media players, including National Geographic, Discovery, Bloomberg, CCTV & PBS.
MICHAEL LOGAN is the business and content development manager at Next Media Animation in Taipei. His team produces animated hard news satire. Logan has spent five years in Taiwan and seven years in Hong Kong and still speaks Mandarin poorly.
CHI-CHI ZHANG has written for The Salt Lake Tribune and The Denver Post. Since 2005, she has lived in Asia where for the last four years she’s worked at AP and currently resides in Beijing as a producer for CNN. She enjoys hiking and is an all-around adventuring enthusiast.
