The AAJA in Tokyo in August is having a ’benkyo-kai’ with Shigeaki Koga, an adviser to Osaka Mayor Toru Hashimoto. Koga was a former METI bureaucrat, but he rebelled against the bureaucracy. Now he is challenging the system and shaping public policy in Japan by advising Mayor Hashimoto.
With the Lower House election looming, Hashimoto will surely play a key role as his Ishin No Kai party members are expected to break into the national political scene with increasing public support.
Koga will talk about the shift in Japanese politics spearheaded by the so-called “third power” with municipal leaders such as Hashimoto gaining public support and forcing the old guard to change.
The Koga talk will be held on Friday, Aug. 31 at the AP Tokyo offices in Shiodome from 7:30 p.m. This is a members only event.
Please RSVP to Ayako Mie at ayako.mie@japantimes.co.jp, Yuri Kageyama at ykageyama@ap.org , and Yuriko Nagano at ynagano@ix.netcom.com by Monday, Aug. 28.
