KRISTIE LU STOUT @klustout

Kristie Lu Stout is an anchor/correspondent for CNN International and host of News Stream from CNN’s Asia-Pacific headquarters in Hong Kong. News Stream is a one hour news program; it airs weekdays at 9pm in Hong Kong. Stout’s community efforts include speaking to students across the world. Stout is also an active member of The Women’s Foundation, where she volunteers as a mentor to assist and guide young professional women in Hong Kong. More


DAN GILLMOR @dangillmor

Dan Gillmor teaches digital media entrepreneurship and is the founding director of the Knight Center for Digital Media Entrepreneurship at Arizona State University’s Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication. The Center, originally funded by the Knight Foundation and Kauffman Foundation, is working to help create a culture of innovation and risk-taking in journalism education, and in the wider media world. More


ROB SCHMITZ @rob_schmitz

Rob Schmitz is Marketplace’s China correspondent, based in Shanghai. He has done feature reporting on China’s education system, Apple’s supply chain in China, the economic transformation of the coal-rich region of Inner Mongolia, and an underground economy spurred by the sale of mooncakes. Schmitz was previously the Los Angeles bureau chief for KQED’s The California Report. Before radio, Schmitz lived and worked in China; first as a teacher in the Peace Corps, then as a freelance print and video journalist. His television documentaries about China have appeared on The Learning Channel and the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation.  More

Stephen Quinn is the digital development editor at the South China Morning Post in Hong Kong. Dr Quinn previously taught journalism at universities in Australia, New Zealand, the UK, the United Arab Emirates and the United States from 1996. Between 1975 and 1995 he worked in all areas of the media in Australia, Thailand, the United Kingdom and New Zealand. More

Thomas Crampton is the Asia-Pacific director of Social@Ogilvy for Ogilvy & Mather. He heads a team across 23 cities in 15 Asian territories that helps companies conceive, develop and execute strategies in social media. He previously spent 18 years as a newspaper correspondent, mainly for the International Herald Tribune and The New York Times, reporting from five continents and dozens of countries. More

James She is a professor in the Department of Electronic & Computer Engineering, at the Hong Kong University of Science & Technology, and director of HKUST’s NIE Social Media Lab. He specializes in video broadcasting and viral delivery for online/mobile social media and networks. More

Tamora Leonard is vice president in APCO Worldwide’s financial communication practice. She brings more than 10 years of experience working for news and public relations industry leaders. She is based in APCO’s Hong Kong office. Previously she worked with Ogilvy Public Relations as a media consultant, multicultural trainer for foreign executives in China and financial communication writer and editor. More

Tyson Wheatley is a senior editor at CNN.com International and Hong Kong co-founder of Instayay. HK InstaYay is a group of Hong Kong Instagram obsessives. Co-founder Tyson Wheatley started the group with two friends in 2011.  Wheatley now has more than 60,000 followers.  He will tell us how to best utilize this popular app with a hands-on interactive editing demonstration. Jay Oatway is a former tech journalist who is now a social media consultant in Hong Kong. He is the author of the book, Mastering Story, Community and Influence: How to use Social Media to Become a Social Leader. He has more than 100,000 followers worldwide on Twitter and also ranked no. 22 on Forbes Top 50 Social Media Power Influencers in 2012. He co-founded #HKSocial, an independent fast growing social/digital meet-up group since February 2011. More

Phil Pan is the former Beijing and Moscow bureau chief for the Washington Post and author of Out of Mao’s Shadow.
